4. Sinfonie, e-moll, op. 98
Album by Johannes Brahms & Chicago Symphony Orchestra & Carlo Maria Giulini
Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Op. 98 is the fourth symphony by German composer Johannes Brahms, completed and first performed in 1885. Rooted in the late-Romantic orchestral tradition, the work is characterised by rich, often somber sonorities, contrapuntal rigour and a finale constructed as a passacaglia-like set of variations, marking a culmination of Brahms's symphonic technique late in his career.
