Scheherazade

Album by Nikolai Andreyevich Rimsky‐Korsakov & Chicago Symphony Orchestra & Fritz Reiner

Scheherazade is a symphonic suite for orchestra by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, composed in 1888. The score uses vivid orchestral colour, sweeping melodies and prominent solo lines to evoke its programme based on Middle Eastern tales, and it represents a key example of late-19th-century Russian programme music that influenced subsequent approaches to orchestration.
