Symphony no. 5 in C‐sharp minor
Album by Gustav Mahler & Rudolf Schwarz & London Symphony Orchestra
Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor is the fifth numbered symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1902. A large-scale late-Romantic orchestral work, it is scored for a substantial orchestra and juxtaposes sombre brass-led fanfares and funeral-march material with expansive lyrical passages and climactic, contrapuntal textures, marking a shift in Mahler's output towards purely instrumental symphonic writing and greater formal abstraction in his career.
