On the Beautiful Blue Danube
Album by Johann Strauss & Concert‐Akademie Orchestra of Vienna & Arthur Ronacher
On the Beautiful Blue Danube is a waltz by Austrian composer Johann Strauss II, composed in 1866 and first performed in 1867. The work exemplifies the Viennese waltz tradition, featuring a flowing 3/4 metre, lyrical melodies and rich orchestral colours that alternate between danceable momentum and broader, more expansive passages, and it occupies a central position in Strauss's output and in 19th-century Viennese social and concert life.
