Symphony no. 1: Inspired by the Lord of the Rings

Album by Johan de Meij & London Symphony Orchestra & David Warble

Symphony No. 1, Inspired by the Lord of the Rings, is a symphony for concert band by Dutch composer Johan de Meij, composed in 1988. The four-movement work uses late-Romantic harmonic language, extensive wind and brass colours and thematic transformation to evoke programme-driven narrative elements, and it helped expand the repertoire and ambition of contemporary concert bands.
