Evolution is the fourth studio album by American rock band Journey, released in 1979. Musically, the album continued the band's transition from earlier progressive and jazz-rock tendencies toward a more streamlined arena-rock sound, emphasising melodic songwriting, prominent guitar work and synthesiser textures that pointed the group towards their subsequent commercial direction.
