Symphony no. 4, op. 29 "The Inestinguishable"
Album by Carl Nielsen & Det Kongelige Kapel & Igor Markevitch
Symphony No. 4, Op. 29 "The Inextinguishable" is the fourth symphony by Danish composer Carl Nielsen, completed and first performed in 1916. Scored for large orchestra, it features starkly contrasted sonorities, driving rhythmic conflicts and evolving motifs that convey an elemental struggle, and it marks a pivotal statement in Nielsen's mature output as he embraced bolder harmonic language and modernist experimentation during the First World War era.
