Symphony No. 2, Three Russian Songs
Album by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff & Valery Kuzmich Polyansky & Russian State Symphony Orchestra & Государственная академическая симфоническая капелла России
This release pairs Sergei Rachmaninoff's Second Symphony, completed in 1907, with a later short choral set composed in 1926. The symphony is late-Romantic in style with broad melodies and rich orchestration, while the choral set draws on Russian folk material and modal harmonies, and both works are part of Rachmaninoff's mature output and show his approach to melody and large-scale form.

First released: August 1998
