Symphony No. 4 is the fourth symphony by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler, completed in 1900. Musically it is characterised by relatively lighter orchestration and classical proportions compared with his preceding symphonies, culminating in a final movement for soprano that sets a child's vision of heaven and marking a transitional point in Mahler's symphonic output between his earlier expansive works and later, more concentrated pieces.
