Symphony no. 1 in E minor

Album by Jean Sibelius & The Philadelphia Orchestra & Eugene Ormandy

Symphony No. 1 in E minor is the first symphony by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, completed and first performed in 1899. Rooted in the late Romantic orchestral tradition, the work is characterised by vigorous string writing, prominent brass and woodwind textures, folk-influenced motifs and dramatic contrasts, and it marked Sibelius's emergence as a distinct symphonic voice at the turn of the 20th century.
