EML ElectroComp 500

Synthesizer by Electronic Music Laboratories

Electronic Music Laboratories introduced the ElectroComp 500 in 1973 as a keyboard performance synthesizer with two VCOs, a multimode resonant filter, ring modulation, and a 44-key keyboard, competing directly with the Minimoog and ARP Odyssey. Its op-amp design produced a distinctive raw, archaic character described as a "science lab" sound, and the instrument was notably used by Devo to create the whip crack in their hit "Whip It".
