Teen Pop

Teen Pop emerged in the late 1990s, largely in the US, when record labels realised that young people with glitzy dance moves and catchy hooks could shift more units than an entire tech startup. Characterised by upbeat melodies, polished production, and lyrics that often revolve around crushes and existential dilemmas like choosing between brands of lip gloss, it's essentially sugar for the ears. The genre has spawned countless bangers, proving that if you throw enough autotune and choreographed moves at a teen, they’ll dance like nobody’s watching – except for the millions of fans on TikTok, of course.
