Psychedelic Folk
Psychedelic Folk emerged in the mid-1960s, primarily in the UK and US, as an intriguing blend of traditional folk melodies and the mind-bending experimentation of psychedelic rock, all while sporting a rather fetching array of floral shirts. Characterised by jangly guitars, whimsical lyrics, and an ear for the unusual, it sounds like a campfire singalong after someone’s had a particularly good trip, possibly involving a few too many mushrooms. Its cultural impact? Well, it’s perhaps the only genre where you can legitimately discuss the meaning of life between verses about fairies and existential dread without anyone raising an eyebrow.
