Post Britpop

Post-Britpop emerged in the late 1990s when the UK decided that simply being a little too clever and catchy wasn't quite enough, and they needed some existential angst thrown in for good measure. This genre is defined by its introspective lyrics and a sound that experiments with everything from electronic elements to a touch of melancholic piano, as if the musicians were trying to work out whether life is merely a series of disillusionments set to a decent beat. The cultural impact? Well, it raised the question of whether being cool meant having a good cup of tea or just being a tad miserable whilst strumming a guitar in your room.
