Minneapolis Sound
The Minneapolis Sound emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s, primarily from the creative hub of Minneapolis, where musicians apparently decided that funk and rock needed to get a room together and have a little dance-off. Featuring funky bass lines, synthesised melodies, and rhythmically-charged guitar riffs, it sounds like a party where everyone gets along a little too well, occasionally throwing in some cheeky pop sensibilities for good measure. This genre not only shaped a local music scene but also laid the groundwork for a certain purple-clad legend who may or may not have redefined the idea of ‘cool’ forever.
