Canadian Rock
Canadian Rock emerged in the 1950s, proving that even those with a penchant for flannel and maple syrup can produce some anthems worth yelling along to. It's characterised by its hearty mix of hard-hitting guitar riffs and catchy melodies, often with a side of introspective lyrics that make you ponder existence—and perhaps reach for a cold beer to lighten the mood. The genre has also been the launching pad for many international acts, making it the proud grande fromage of Canada’s musical landscape, for better or worse.
