Boom Bap

Boom Bap emerged on the streets of 1980s New York, where sampling old jazz and funk records became the preferred way for rappers to prove their lyrical prowess whilst dodging a bit of original creativity. Characterised by its hard-hitting drums and snappy snares, it often sounds like a cross between a vintage vinyl record and a particularly enthusiastic tap-dancer. It's the sort of music that makes you want to nod your head and consider deep philosophical questions, like how many hats you can wear at once before it becomes a fashion statement.
