Sunny Murray

Sunny Murray was an American jazz drummer from Idabel, Oklahoma, who began his career in the late 1950s and was associated with the free jazz movement. He pioneered a non-metric, textural approach to percussion that emphasised continuous flow over strict timekeeping, a practice that helped reframe the role of drums within avant-garde jazz and free improvisation.
