The Strokes are an American rock band formed in New York City in 1998, associated with the garage rock revival and indie rock scenes. Their concise, guitar-driven songs, terse vocal delivery and lo-fi production characterised their early work and catalysed renewed attention to the early-2000s New York rock scene while influencing a wave of contemporary indie rock bands.
