Angus MacLise was an American percussionist, poet and multimedia artist who emerged in the early 1960s New York avant-garde scene and worked across experimental, drone and ritual music. His practice combined improvisational percussion, non-Western instruments and spoken-word texts, and after leaving the downtown scene he spent years travelling in South Asia where Tibetan ritual, esoteric interests and a do-it-yourself approach shaped his later recordings and performance pieces.
