J Mascis (born Joseph Donald Mascis Jr., 10 December 1965) is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter from Massachusetts, best known as the founder of alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr. and earlier a member of hardcore punk group Deep Wound. Alongside solo recordings, he has led projects including J Mascis + The Fog and the stoner/doom outfit Witch, with work spanning indie and noise rock to acoustic folk.
