Tracy Chapman

Tracy Chapman is an American singer-songwriter from Cleveland, Ohio, who began performing while studying at Tufts University and released her debut album in 1988, working principally within folk, acoustic, blues and pop traditions. Her work is characterised by spare acoustic arrangements and socially conscious lyrics, and over her career she has blended folk and blues influences while addressing themes such as social justice and personal relationships.
