Vesselina Kasarova is a Bulgarian mezzo-soprano from Silistra who trained in Sofia and began her international opera career in the early 1990s, working principally in opera and concert repertoire. Her repertoire initially concentrated on Baroque and classical roles by Handel and Mozart and on bel canto parts by Rossini, and over time she has broadened into Verdi and Strauss roles as well as recital and concert work, contributing to the visibility of Eastern European singers on international stages.
