Waltraud Meier is a German operatic singer who began her professional career in the late 1970s as a mezzo-soprano, specialising in nineteenth- and twentieth-century repertoire with particular emphasis on the operas of Wagner and Richard Strauss. Over the course of her career she expanded into heavier, dramatic soprano roles while maintaining a Wagnerian and Strauss focus, and her vocal and interpretative approach led to frequent engagements at major European and international opera houses.
