Alice Coltrane

Alice Coltrane was an American jazz pianist, harpist and composer from Detroit who began her career in the late 1950s and is most associated with modal, avant-garde and spiritual jazz. Her music evolved from post-bop forms into expansive, meditative compositions that incorporated harp, organ and Eastern instrumentation alongside devotional themes, and she later centred her practice on spiritual teaching and religious music.
