Deftones are an American alternative metal band formed in Sacramento, California, in 1988. Their music combines heavy guitar textures and melodic atmospherics with contrasting aggressive and ethereal vocals, and across their career they have incorporated elements of shoegaze, post-rock and electronic music that broadened their sound beyond early nu-metal categorisations.
