Dream Pop floated into existence in the 1980s, primarily in the UK, when musicians decided that the best way to avoid any actual singing was to wrap their voices in layers of reverb and synth. The sound is characterised by ethereal vocals, lush soundscapes, and melodies so airy that you might mistake them for a cloud’s light-hearted daydream.
