Gil Evans

Gil Evans was a Canadian-born jazz pianist, composer and arranger who began his professional career in the 1930s and became active on the North American jazz scene. He developed arrangements that integrated orchestral textures, modal harmonies and elements from classical and world music, shaping the evolution of big-band and orchestral jazz through the mid- to late-20th century.
