Sena Jurinac was a Bosnian-born Austrian operatic soprano, born in Travnik in 1921, who trained in Zagreb and began her professional career before becoming a regular presence at major European opera houses from the mid-1940s, particularly the Vienna State Opera. Her repertoire ranged from Mozart to Strauss and Verdi, and she moved into more dramatic and character roles later in her career, taking part in the post-war revival of central European operatic repertoire.
