Irmgard Seefried

Irmgard Seefried was a soprano born in 1919 in Landau an der Isar, Bavaria, who began her professional career in the 1940s performing in German-speaking opera houses and concert halls. Associated with lyric soprano repertoire, she specialised in Mozart and German Lieder and combined operatic roles with recital work, shaping mid-20th-century performance practice of that repertoire.
