Naná Vasconcelos
Naná Vasconcelos was a Brazilian percussionist and vocalist from Recife who began his career in the 1960s, performing across jazz, world and contemporary improvised music. His work blended Afro-Brazilian rhythms, berimbau technique, vocalisations and electronic processing in improvisatory and compositional settings, integrating traditional Brazilian percussion into international jazz and avant-garde contexts and contributing to cross-cultural musical exchanges.
