Gil Scott‐Heron

Gil Scott-Heron was an American poet and musician from Chicago who began recording in the late 1960s and is associated with spoken-word, soul, jazz and proto-rap. Combining spoken-word performance with jazz, funk and soul arrangements, his work addressed social and political issues and helped lay groundwork for later hip-hop and spoken-word movements.
