The Roots

The Roots are an American hip hop band formed in Philadelphia in 1987. They built their sound around live instrumentation, blending hip hop with jazz, soul and funk and incorporating socially conscious lyrics, and over their career they expanded into broader media roles, notably serving as the house band for a US late-night television programme.
