All-Night Vigil
Album by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff & Eesti Filharmoonia Kammerkoor & Paul Hillier
All-Night Vigil is a choral composition by Sergey Rachmaninov, composed in 1915. Rooted in Russian Orthodox liturgical tradition, the a cappella work uses late-Romantic harmonies, dense choral textures and an unusually prominent low bass register, and it stands as one of Rachmaninov's final major choral works, synthesising folk and liturgical influences with his mature harmonic language.
