Judas Maccabaeus Oratorio

Album by George Frideric Handel & Charles Mackerras

Judas Maccabaeus is an oratorio by Georg Friedrich Händel, first performed in 1747. A Baroque oratorio scored for soloists, chorus and orchestra, it combines dramatic recitatives and arias with substantial choral writing and orchestral accompaniment, and forms part of Handel's mature oratorio output that engages with English choral and ceremonial musical traditions.
