String Quartets nos. 10, 13 & 14
Album by Dmitri Dmitrievich Shostakovich & Borodin Quartet
String Quartets nos. 10, 13 & 14 are three string quartets by the Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, composed in 1964, 1970 and 1973. They exemplify his late-period chamber writing, characterised by concentrated motifs, stark dissonance, sombre introspection and occasional folkloric references, and form part of his late output that explores compressed forms and heightened emotional intensity.
First released: 1987
