Ein deutsches Requiem is a large-scale choral composition by Johannes Brahms, completed and first performed in 1868. Scored for chorus, soloists and orchestra and set to German biblical and liturgical texts rather than the traditional Latin mass, it represents a major contribution to Brahms's output and to 19th-century choral repertoire through its symphonic treatment of vocal forces and contemplative, contrapuntal textures.
