Aleko, Opera in One Act
Album by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff & Donetsk Philharmonic Orchestra & Roman Kofman
Aleko is an opera in one act by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov, composed in 1892. Rooted in the late-Romantic Russian tradition, it employs folk-influenced melodies, lush orchestration and dramatic vocal writing, and represents Rachmaninov's early operatic work written as his graduation piece at the Moscow Conservatory, foreshadowing elements of his later compositional voice.
