Asrael Symphony

Album by Josef Suk & Jakub Hrůša & Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra

Asrael Symphony is a symphonic work by Czech composer Josef Suk, completed in 1906–1907. The large-scale late-Romantic score blends mournful, elegiac themes, dense chromaticism and expansive orchestration as a response to the deaths of his mentor Antonín Dvořák and his wife, and it represents a significant, deeply personal point in Suk's compositional development within early 20th-century Czech music.
