To the XXth Anniversary of October, Op.74 / Scythian Suite, Op.20 are two orchestral works by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, composed in 1937 and 1915 respectively. They present contrasting sonic worlds: the former is a large-scale cantata for chorus and orchestra with direct, rhetorically driven material aligned with Soviet commemorative purposes, while the latter is an early orchestral suite built on primitivist rhythms, vivid brass and percussion writing and colourful orchestration that reflects Prokofiev's transition from his early avant-garde idiom to the more programme-driven music of his later career.
