Mass in G Minor, BWV 235; Eine feste Burg ist unser Gott, BWV 80
Album by Johann Sebastian Bach & Sarah Wegener & Peter Harvey & David Allsopp & Thomas Hobbs & Barockorchester Stuttgart & Kammerchor Stuttgart & Frieder Bernius
This album pairs two liturgical works by Johann Sebastian Bach, composed in the first half of the 18th century (c.1720s–c.1740s). Musically they exemplify Bach's Baroque language—combining contrapuntal choral writing, solo vocal lines and obbligato instrumental textures rooted in Lutheran liturgical tradition—and illustrate his practice of reworking earlier material into large-scale sacred forms during his mature Leipzig period.
