Cello Suites

The Cello Suites are a set of six suites for unaccompanied cello by Johann Sebastian Bach, composed c.1717–1723 during his Köthen period. Written in the Baroque idiom, they employ dance-derived movements, implied polyphony and idiomatic cello techniques to explore the instrument's range and sonorities, and they occupy a formative position in the solo cello repertoire and in Bach's body of instrumental works.
