Violin Concerto & Double Concerto
Album by Johannes Brahms & David Fiodorovich Oistrakh & Mstislav Rostropovich & George Szell & The Cleveland Orchestra
The Violin Concerto and the Double Concerto are orchestral concertos by German composer Johannes Brahms, composed in 1878 and 1887 respectively. Both works exemplify Brahms's Romantic-era idiom with expansive, virtuosic solo writing set against rich orchestral textures, the Violin Concerto reflecting his mature symphonic approach and the Double Concerto showing a later, more chamber-like intimacy and contrapuntal refinement in his career.
