Symphonic Poems
Album by Franz Liszt & London Festival Orchestra & Cesare Cantieri
Symphonic Poems is a cycle of thirteen orchestral works by Hungarian composer Franz Liszt, composed and first performed between 1848 and 1882. The pieces employ programme-driven structure, thematic transformation, expanded chromatic harmony and vivid orchestration, representing Liszt's shift from piano virtuosity to large-scale orchestral experimentation and helping to establish the symphonic poem as a form in nineteenth-century music.
