The Mystery Sonatas, Volume 1 • Nos. 1-9
Album by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber & Monica Huggett & Sonnerie
The Mystery Sonatas, Volume 1 • Nos. 1-9 is a set of violin sonatas by Bohemian-Austrian composer Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber, first published in 1676. Written for solo violin and basso continuo, the sonatas employ scordatura tuning, dense polyphony and a programme-like devotional structure that exemplify Biber's late 17th-century approach to instrumental sacred music.
