Symphony no. 5
Album by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & André Previn
Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Op. 64 is the fifth symphony by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, completed in 1888. The work exemplifies Tchaikovsky's late-Romantic orchestral style, featuring sweeping melodies, rich orchestration and a recurring 'fate' motif that unifies the movements, and it occupies a central place in his symphonic output as a reflection of his mature approach to form and orchestral colour.
