String Quartets no. 1 & no. 2
Album by Leoš Janáček & The Medici Quartet
String Quartets No. 1 and No. 2 are two chamber works by the Czech composer Leoš Janáček, composed in 1923 and 1928 respectively. They exemplify Janáček's late stylistic language within the string quartet genre, combining speech-inspired melodic inflection, folk-tinged harmonies, incisive rhythmic drive and concentrated textures, and they occupy an important place in his late-career output and in 20th-century chamber music.
First released: 1981
