The Planets

The Planets is an orchestral suite by English composer Gustav Holst, composed between 1914 and 1916. Scored for a large symphony orchestra with prominent brass and percussion and notable use of orchestral colour and rhythmic drive, the suite presents a sequence of characterful movements inspired by astrological ideas and was composed during the First World War, establishing Holst's reputation and influencing early 20th-century British orchestral practice.
