Double Concertos

Album by Johannes Brahms & Wolfgang Rihm & John Harbison & Jan Vogler & Mira Wang & Royal Scottish National Orchestra & Peter Oundjian

Double Concerto in A minor, Op. 102 is a double concerto for violin and cello by Johannes Brahms, composed in 1887. The work features Romantic-era orchestration with dense, contrapuntal textures and chamber-like interplay between the two solo instruments and the orchestra, and it stands as one of Brahms's late orchestral works that synthesises his classical formalism with his mature harmonic language and contrapuntal technique.
