The Firebird / Petrushka
Album by Igor Fyodorovitch Stravinsky & Philharmonia Orchestra & Robert Craft
The Firebird / Petrushka is a pairing of two orchestral works by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky, originally composed in 1910 and 1911. Both pieces exemplify early 20th-century modernism, combining colourful orchestration, folk-influenced melodies and rhythmic innovation, and they occupy a pivotal place in Stravinsky's transition from late-Romantic ballet writing towards a more experimental rhythmic and harmonic language.
